City of Highwood City Council met Feb. 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

1. Roll Call

Present: Mayor Pecaro, Aldermen: Grice, Falberg, Hospodarsky, Slavin

Absent: Aldermen: Peterson, Fiore

Also Present: City Manager Coren, City Attorney Ferolo, Administrative Assistant Litjens, City Clerk Baruffi

2. Pledge of Allegiance

Those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance

3. Review of Minutes to be Approved

3.1. Moved by Alderman Slavin, seconded by Alderman Falberg to approve the City Council: January 16, 2018 minutes as presented. All present voting aye, by voice vote, motion carried.

3.2. Moved by Alderman Slavin, seconded by Alderman Falberg to approve the Committee of the Whole: January 16, 2018 minutes as presented. All present voting aye, by voice vote, motion carried.

4. Appointments (Mayor Pecaro)

5. Approval of Warrant List:

5.1. Moved by Alderman Falberg, seconded by Alderman Hospodarsky to approve the 02/06/2018 AP Warrant List for payment. All present voting aye, motion carried.

Yes: Aldermen: Falberg, Hospodarsky, Grice, Slavin

Absent: Aldermen: Fiore, Peterson

6. Public Input Items Not On Agenda

Stuart Gordon lives in a 5 unit building. He would like the Council to consider changing or not limiting to 1 company for fire alarm. He stated he understands what involved and is will to volunteer his time to assist in the coordination of a program.

Elliott Heidelberger: Lives in a multi-unit building and although has contacted Chicago Metro Fire Alarm does not feel they have followed through with what needs to be completed.

Jim Kuzma: Lives in a multi-unit building and although wants fire protection, inquired as to why the 6 unit building could not be serviced with one alarm system rather than each unit required to have their own fire alarm system. He would also volunteer to work with the City.

There are 2 more years of the City’s 7 year contract agreement with Chicago Metropolitan Fire.

7. Mayor’s Report

7.1. Anne Flanigan Bassi-Moraine Township Tax Preparation Assistance for Low Income Tax Payers 

Anne Flanigan Bassi reviewed the services of the Moraine Township tax preparation assistance for low and moderate tax payers. This is the 3 rd year the service has been provided and has been a success. During the week, appointments are required, but on Saturdays walk-ins are available. Their contact phone number is 847-780-6644.

12. New Business

12.1. Moved by Alderman Falberg, seconded by Alderman Slavin to authorize a Motion Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into an Agreement with a Class A Certified Water Operator to Provide Consulting Services to the City of Highwood at a Rate of $2,400 per Month, Contingent on Approval by the City Attorney. All present voting aye, motion carried.

15. Adjournment Moved by Alderman Hospodarsky, seconded by Alderman Falberg to adjourn the meeting. All present voting aye, by voice vote, motion carried. Mayor Pecaro adjourned the meeting at 7:50 P.M.
