CITY OF HIGHLAND PARK: June 11, 2018 City Council Meeting Recap

City of Highland Park recently issued the following announcement.

At last night’s Regular Committee of the Whole Meeting, the City Council continued a discussion pertaining to prioritization of public facility improvements including the possible relocation of the City’s Senior Center to the Highland Park Country Club, and a possible expansion of the Highland Park Public Library. The City Council also reviewed and discussed the draft agreements between the City and the Park District of Highland Park related to the disposition of portions of the Highland Park Country Club property.

During the Regular City Council Meeting, under the Report of the Mayor, Vice President of Illinois Chiefs of Police Bill Kushner congratulated Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen on becoming an Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Certified Police Chief. Mayor Rotering and the City Council presented the League of American Bicyclists Bronze Recognition and thanked the many individuals who assisted with the City achieving this recognition. In addition, the Mayor announced that the meeting agenda included the approval of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). She explained that the City received an unmodified opinion, which means that the City’s financial statements are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and that no deficiencies in internal controls were identified. These are the most favorable CAFR and internal control audit opinions that a municipality can receive.

During the meeting, the City Council approved an ordinance amending City Code Chapters 50, 51, and 53 as part of a major multi-year City Code update project; approved the 2018-2019 vehicle sticker design; accepted the CAFR for Fiscal Year 2017; and passed a second amendment to the development agreement and a minor amendment to the planned development for the Porsche Exchange project located at 2276, 2296, and 2310 Skokie Valley Road. During Business from the Council, Councilwoman Stone presented a report on the activities of the Transportation Commission; Councilman Blumberg presented a report on the activities of the Historic Preservation Commission; and Councilman Stolberg presented a report on the activities of the Park District of Highland Park.
