COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 117: #D117Spain2018

School

Community High School District 117 issued the following announcement on July 3.

Twenty-six students and four Spanish teachers explored five cities in Spain during a ten-day tour this summer.

The group departed June 11 and returned June 21 with a richer understanding of the Spanish language and culture. They visited cathedrals, bartered in markets, and enjoyed tapas, paella and churros. They experienced famous historical sites on foot and on bike, and recovered from their long days of learning at the pool or the beach.

Their stops included Barcelona, where they saw La Catedral de Barcelona, some 1992 Olympic venues, and the Basílica de la Sagrada Família; Valencia, where they saw another cathedral and the Museo Fallero; Granada, where they toured the gypsy neighborhood Albaicín and learned the Flamenco dance; Seville, where they climbed La Giralda bell tower and visited a mosque; and Madrid, where they visited the Europe’s largest palace, Palacio Real de Madrid.

The group was accompanied by Lakes Spanish teachers Amber Cornelius and Jeff Gutke and ACHS Spanish teachers Rachel Morales and Carolyn Grieco.
