Deerfield School District 109 recently issued the following announcement.
“Provide innovative educational experiences of the highest quality that engage, inspire, and empower each student to excel and contribute to improving the world.” - Deerfield Public Schools District 109 Mission
Dear District 109 Staff, Parents, Grandparents & Community Members,
Engage, Inspire, Empower. Those words are the cornerstone of District 109’s mission. They are also my commitments to our students, staff, families, and community. As the new superintendent of Deerfield Public Schools District 109, I am honored and humbled to continue to serve this fine community where I have spent the past five years as an assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent.
During the transition process, I have had the opportunity to meet with staff, parents, and community leaders, and have seen constant proof that they are committed to our students and their success. It is the continued partnership of all stakeholders that will lead the District to continued excellence.
I have watched our students grow and our schools receive the highest rankings and awards available to public schools. Yet as we celebrate our growth and achievements, we also know that continuing to serve our students means we must never rest on our laurels and continuously look for ways to improve.
One of the things that I am passionate about is our need to focus on the development of the whole child. We must continue to find ways to support our students not only in their academic growth, but also in their 21st century skills, relationships, and dreams. Each of our students is unique and has greatness in them. It is our duty as a community to help each of them realize their potential. I ask that we not only to continue to advocate for our own students and children, but also for all learners in District 109.
On August 20, we welcome back our students to a new school year. We have been busy preparing for their return since the day school let out. Teachers and staff have participated in thousands of hours of professional development and learning to be better equipped to serve our students. Construction projects, such as new libraries at our middle schools and fine arts spaces at our elementary schools are underway. Our technology team is preparing new one-to-one devices for our students in grades 2-8; with updated security and safety measures in place to protect our students.
In the next couple of weeks, you will be hearing from your child’s principal, their teacher or teachers, and District staff to get you information you need to be ready for the new school year. Never hesitate to contact any of us if we can be of service or support. You can get information from various sources: through email, our website, the District 109 app, Facebook, and Twitter. I also share regular thoughts on teaching, learning, and education at my blog.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our schools and students. I feel so fortunate to work in a community that strongly values education, with teachers and staff who are learners themselves and care so much about their students and each other.
Please continue to stay informed, get involved, and work with us to engage, inspire, and empower - every child, every day!
Sincerely,
Anthony McConnell, Ed.D
