Round Lake Community Unit School District 116 recently issued the following announcement.
The Early Education Center is making substantial changes to its indoor and outdoor gross motor space.
Gross motor activity is a 20 minute mandatory part of the students' day. It must include opportunities for children to climb, crawl, run, jump, balance, build and of course to practice social skills.
The EEC received an additional $45,000, from the Preschool for All FY18 grant, of which over half will be spent on improvements to the indoor and outdoor gross motor space.
Some of the improvements include safety flooring in our Great Room and a Soft Zone Maze and Giant Blocks set, a new fence for the outdoor space and an ADA accessible playground piece and wheelchair ramp to the playground area, that will be installed this fall. Students love the new play space and staff have observed an increase in student engagement, participation and socialization during gross motor time.
