Hawthorn Community Consolidated School District 73 students suspended 52 times in a single school year

Hawthorn Community Consolidated School District 73 reported 52 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 52 students during the year. That equates to 1.2 percent of the 4,185 students enrolled.

Of the 39 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 33 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.

Of the 13 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 11 incidents. There were one incidents of violence without physical injury. For seven incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
