Antioch Community Consolidated School District 34 students suspended 163 times in a single school year

Antioch Community Consolidated School District 34 reported 163 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 163 students during the year. That equates to 5.6 percent of the 2,932 students enrolled.

Of the 129 in-school suspensions, 107 were given to boys and 22 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 89 incidents. There were 23 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 97 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 34 out-of-school suspensions, 24 were given to boys and 10 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 20 incidents. There were seven incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
