Zion Elementary School District 6 students suspended 325 times in a single school year

Zion Elementary School District 6 reported 325 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 325 students during the year. That equates to 11.8 percent of the 2,759 students enrolled.

Of the 12 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 12 incidents. For nine incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 313 out-of-school suspensions, 212 were given to boys and 101 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 294 incidents. There were 14 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 169 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
