Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement.
The Grant Community High School October Student of the Month is senior Henry Kusiak, son of Kevin and Kathy Kusiak of Round Lake.
Henry's academic achievements include Induction into the National Honor Society during his sophomore year, Honor Roll and Scholars’ List, and has a 4.894 GPA. He was named as Academic All-Conference for Baseball and Basketball each year. He scored 1450 on his SAT and has taken 6 AP classes.
His extracurricular activities include Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America during his freshman year and Principal’s Advisory Council in his sophomore and junior years. He has played baseball each year, serving as Captain of the Freshman Team, played varsity beginning sophomore year, and received many awards such as Captain’s Award, All-Conference and All-Area Honorable Mention. He has also been on the Basketball Team, earning Defensive Player of the Year, Captain of Sophomore Team, and Captain of varsity team, named All-Conference and All-Area Honorable mention.
Henry’s school and community involvement is vast; he has been a Math Lab Tutor and Big Dawg Mentor. He has volunteered for the Health and Wellness fair, book pickup, Pledge of Allegiance, 2017 Graduation, Camp Duncan 5K, Rotary Holiday Party, Feed My Starving Children, St. Bede’s Christmas Tree Sale, Grant Concessions, and several baseball and basketball fundraisers.
In addition to all of his activities, Henry has worked at Bella’s Bouncies and at Royal Melbourne Country Club. He attended iLead-Illinois Leadership Seminar and NLCC Leadership Conference, and was nominated for Boys State.
His plans for the future include attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado to major in Management or Biology and hopes to play baseball.
