The Vernon Hills women’s swim and diving team is headed to the state tournament after racing to conference and sectional titles.
“Congratulations, to the entire women's swim & dive team at VHHS,” school officials recently posted on Facebook. “Each teammate contributed. Now we are state-bound, with several individuals and all three swim relays qualifying for Friday's meet in Evanston.”
Vernon Hills won seven out of 12 events at Lake Forest to defend their sectional title and earn the school its second sectional championship in girls swimming, all while punching their ticket for Evanston on Nov. 16 to 17.
In all, Vernon Hills totaled 281 points. Its closet competitors were Libertyville (201) and Warren (185).
"It feels great,” Coach A.J. Block told the Daily Herald. "These girls love to swim and have worked hard all season. We're really happy with our swims today."
Ally Landis won the diving competition, setting a school record of 432.35 points. Claudia Yoon, Emma Zhang, Aleksandra Skatchkov and Drew Petereit teamed to win the 200 medley relay in a school-record time of 1:46.95.
Petereit, Ellie and Anna Long and Casey Craffey won the 400 free relay in 3:31.60.
