Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 issued the following announcement on June 13.
Waukegan Public Schools, the City of Waukegan and the Waukegan Park District are teaming up to host a community conversation on Waukegan's youth. The event, titled “Courageous Conversations”, will be begin at 6 p.m. on June 19 at Miguel Juarez Middle School.
The evening's conversation will be led by Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham, School Board President Brandon Ewing, and Park District Board President, Marc Jones, who will discuss their experiences growing up in Waukegan, as well as the current issues facing some of the city's young people.
“With this event, Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Jones, and I are opening the lines of communication to begin discussing how to positively impact young people in our city,” said Mr. Ewing. ”We all know that the future of Waukegan depends on this next generation and we want to work together to make sure we are supporting our youth.”
The event will be moderated by Rochelle Shipley, and is free and open to all Waukegan community members.
