Illinois State House District 60 issued the following announcement on Oct. 1
In response to the announcement by Sterigenics that it is ceasing operations of its ethylene oxide emitting facility in Willowbrook, State Representative Rita Mayfield D-Waukegan, issued the following statement,
“We have two facilities here in Lake County. I invite them to either fully comply with the provisions of HB3888 or utilize an alternative sterilization method.”
“I would prefer the decision makers of Vantage and Medline choose a course that protects health and preserves jobs. The bottom line here is employment cannot come at the expense of people’s health. If they will not change, then they must follow Sterigenics of Willowbrook and cease operations. Protecting the health of the people in my community is paramount.”
