Aptakisic Tripp Community Consolidated School District 102 issued the following announcement on Nov. 7.
“Our most important job as educators is to create a space where all students are seen, known, valued, and feel a sense of belonging,” notes Eli Rogers, Student Services and SEL Coordinator.
Teachers work to build interpersonal connections with students and provide opportunities for students to form relationships with their peers and the school community as a whole. “When students feel that they belong⎯⎯to a class, a team, or a particular school⎯⎯the benefits are tremendous,” continues Rogers. “In a healthy environment such as this, children will find and use their gifts, strengths, and personal interests.
When those individual assets emerge through collaborating on a project or as students pursue personal interests, they begin to view themselves as essential members of the community.”
D102 provides many opportunities for these connections to occur and continuously looks to expand and grow the options. When kids feel emotionally safe and valued, schools are safer places for all.
