Bos says he will 'fight this false narrative' that Pritzker's proposed progressive tax will help Illinois

Bos

Chris Bos is sounding the alarm about the progressive tax Gov. J.B. Pritzker has thrown his full support behind as a replacement for the state’s current flat tax system.

“Voters need to be informed about the reality of what this tax will mean,” Bos (R-Lake Zurich), who is running against incumbent Rep. Mary Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville) in the 51st District, told the Lake County Gazette. “I’ll continue to do all I can to fight this false narrative that this will move this state forward. Nothing could be further from the truth and every state where it’s been enacted has been decimated by it.”

Bos argues analysis by Illinois Policy Institute concluding that the tax would cost the state the equivalent of all the 45,000 jobs it gained in 2019 if it were actually enacted is just the tip of the iceberg. In all, IPI forecasts that some 56,399 jobs would be lost.

“Voters need to remember that while it may have taken a supermajority to get this on the ballot, if it passes it gives Springfield a blank check going forward and the right to act on it anytime they want to,” Bos said. “I don’t trust Springfield with that and I think anyone else should either.”

Bos directly signals out Edly-Allen as not standing by her word.

“Instead of standing up for taxpayers, now she’s saying yes to this tax,” he said.

Voters will finally have their say in November when they go to the polls to vote on the question of if the state Constitution should be amended to allow lawmakers the power to enact a progressive tax system.

As that day draws closer, Bos has a warning for anyone who will listen.

“They’re looking to spend more of your hard-earned money instead of looking to be more efficient and effective,” he said. “With all the corruption and distortion in Springfield, it’s never enough. It won’t be long before everything about this tax is stuck on (the) middle class.”
