Adlai E Stevenson High School District 125 issued the following announcement on March 4.
Professional artist, graphic designer and former Stevenson art teacher Donna Stewart Hickman is the SHS Art Department’s Visiting Artist of the Months of March and April. An exhibition of her works will be on display in the Visiting Artist Gallery through April 24, and she will discuss her work and her career during an ARTalk at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Stewart Hickman graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BFA in Painting and a MA in Art Education.
As a painter, she creates oil paintings which focus on the landscape for subject matter. Here color, design and visual rhythm are explored as well as structural components, a sense of space and any interesting play between light and shadow. The hope is to create for the viewer a feeling of contentment, light-heartedness and introspection.
Donna worked at Stevenson from 1998 to 2010, challenging students to work creatively, learn new techniques, and develop both perceptual skills and problem solving skills.
