Chris Bos thinks every voter should have a clear and simple criteria when they go to the polls.
“For any candidate, if they’ve taken money from Mike Madigan or haven’t promised not to vote to re-elect him as House Speaker that should be enough not to cast a vote for them,” Bos, now running against incumbent Rep. Mary Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville) in the 51st District, told the Lake County Gazette. "For anyone that’s serious about trying to get this state back on track that should be the first question they ask before casting a vote.”
Bos points to a new WalletHub survey that concludes for the third straight year Illinois is home to the second-highest property taxes in the country behind only New Jersey as an indictment of the way Springfield has conducted business largely under Madigan’s watch.
As part of their study, researchers detailed how taxes on a home valued at $205,000 in Illinois are almost three times higher ($4,700) than they are for the same priced home in nearby Kentucky or Indiana ($1,760).
“It is the epitome and direct result of the decades and decades of corruption that have existed,” Bos added. “We’ve actually got people that have paid for their home but can no longer afford to stay in it because of all the property taxes.”
Bos said he is hoping the upcoming election cycle will mark the beginning of the change he’s convinced needs to come to Springfield.
“I think the more the people of Illinois stand up and speak out about holding lawmakers more accountable the faster things can change,” he said. “The first thing we need is new leadership and the end of Madigan. I don’t think the change we need can happen under our current leadership.”
