ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 59: Didech Advocates for Balanced State Budget, Secures Funding for Essential Services

59

Illinois State House District 59 issued the following announcement on May 24

State Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, released the following statement following the passage of a balanced state budget and numerous measures aimed at providing relief from the COVID-19 pandemic:

“During this unprecedented health crisis, it was imperative that we worked together to make the tough choices necessary to prioritize the most urgent issues impacting our communities and families. By coming together, we successfully passed a balanced state budget that will fund the essential services needed to safeguard public health and place our state on a track toward economic recovery. Although we face many challenges as we continue to realize the impact of this outbreak, this budget will help ensure a brighter future and keep our state moving forward.

“In spite of the challenges posed by this pandemic, we came together to pass a budget and reforms that will expand access to affordable health care services, invest in job opportunities and training resources, provide workplace protections for our essential workers, and establish a vote by mail system to strengthen the democratic process and ensure every voice is heard.

“Homeowners can see some immediate tax relief through a delay on late payment penalties and tax sales and a one-year deferral on property tax exemption applications for veterans, seniors and people with disabilities to help ensure no one misses out on an exemption they are eligible to continue to receive.

“While this budget and these reforms are a pivotal step on the path toward economic recovery, there is no question that there remains a lot more work to be done to help our state and its people heal from the damage this outbreak has and continues to cause. Above all else, I am committed to building a stronger, more equitable Illinois and will continue fighting for our community.”
