Republican state Rep.-elect Chris Bos argues voters could not have been clearer in making their feelings known on Election Day.

“I think it’s a clear sign to Gov. (J.B.) Pritzker that the people of Illinois are done with all the taxing and do not trust the system,” Bos told the Lake County Gazette soon after Pritzker’s long-supported progressive tax proposal failed to net the support needed for passage. “It’s high time leadership acknowledges the need and starts making changes in areas of ethics and pension reform.”

Bos, who defeated incumbent state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen (D-Libertyville) in the 51st District with 54% of the vote, adds he’s not surprised to see an agitated Pritzker now lashing out as he has, threatening everything from across the board tax hikes to “painful” budget cuts after having pumped more than $50 million of his own money into a campaign aimed at swaying voters.

“It’s always the same with the governor, the same childish, bullying, trying to intimidate you to see things the way he does,” Bos added. “It’s time to put the people of Illinois first and do what’s in their best interest, like finally passing a balanced budget that would make us fiscally sound to the point people want to stay here and others want to come to build a life for themselves.”

As for putting the state back on the right financial course, Bos argues that also can be accomplished with the right kind of plan in place.

“We have to be willing to make tough decisions and choices, where things like political favors, payoffs and bribes no longer have a place in state government,” he said. “It means standing up to do what we know is the right thing by the people of this state.”
