Adlai E Stevenson High School District 125 issued the following announcement on Nov. 13.
During a typical year, the fall and winter season is a time of joy and excitement as friends and families make plans to spend time together for the season’s holidays. Unfortunately, we know this year has been far from typical. COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing across the country and in our community, surpassing the peaks we saw in the spring.
At the same time, we expect to experience a twin-demic that couples the COVID-19 pandemic with the seasonal cold/flu cases we tend to see every year. We all must do our part to maintain the health and safety of our community, especially as we hope for and plan for a potential transition to hybrid learning in the second semester.
If you are planning to travel this holiday season, the PediaTrust doctors recommends the following tips to stay safe and minimize the spread of COVID-19:
Prior to travel
- Quarantine as much as possible (ideally 2 weeks) and be aware of any symptoms. If you experience symptoms, including fever of chills, cough, and shortness of breath, we strongly suggest that you reconsider your travel plans.
- If possible, drive your own vehicle. Driving poses the lowest risk of COVID transmission. If taking more public modes of transportation, practice all safety precautions, including masking and good hand hygiene.
- Talk to your loved ones about shared expectations on safety.
- Watch your distance and try to stay six feet from loved ones. Consider outdoor gatherings if the weather permits.
- Wear a mask except when you’re eating and drinking.
- Wash your hands as frequently as possible.
If you are not a Stevenson student, faculty or staff member, please contact your primary care provider or local health department for COVID-19 guidance or testing. You may also search the Lake County Health Department or Illinois Department of Public Health for more information.
