Veteran Illinois state Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) is convinced top democrats in Springfield have become an enemy of the people with their constant tax increase proposals.

“Illinois families are in need of tax relief, but Gov. J.B. Pritzker keeps trying to raise our taxes,” McSweeney said. “When will it end?”

McSweeney had to be equally appalled to see House Speaker Mike Madigan recently pledge to throw his weight behind another tax increase as part of his campaign to secure the 60 votes he needs to earn another term as Speaker in what is shaping up as his most fierce battle yet.

The state’s longest-tenured lawmaker, Madigan now finds himself at the center of a still-unfolding federal corruption probe involving ComEd. The energy company faces fraud allegations for a pay-for-play scheme where all the perks were allegedly steered to him in exchange for favorable legislation.

In addition, a Special House Committee panel was convened to look into some of Madigan's most suspect allegations to determine if any sanctions, up to possible expulsion, were warranted.

Through it all, McSweeney remains focused on bringing the people what he’s convinced they are most in need of.

“As Chairman of Cut Illinois Taxes, I’m proud to be a voice for Illinois families struggling to keep up with rising taxes,” he said. “I won’t stop fighting until we enact real reforms and much needed tax relief.

While Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) has emerged as the primary challenger to Madigan’s speakership, McSweeney is making a promise to voters of his own.

“I’ll always stay vigilant looking out for you and every Illinois family,” he added. “I’m fighting to stop Gov. Pritzker’s tax hikes so Illinoisans can keep more of their hard-earned income.”
