ADLAI E STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 125: District 125 Prepares Vaccination Efforts for Lake County Educators

Vaccination

Adlai E Stevenson High School District 125 issued the following announcement on Jan 29.

As Illinois moves into Phase 1B of its vaccination efforts, work is underway at Stevenson High School to operationalize its campus as a vaccination site for all educators who live and work in Lake County.

Stevenson High School and Round Lake High School have been selected as the two vaccination sites responsible for vaccinating approximately 20,000 educators. In partnership with the Lake County Department of Health, leaders at Stevenson High School are working quickly to bring in the supplies and additional personnel needed to safely operate the vaccination site.

“Given the space and resources that are available at Stevenson High School, I am incredibly grateful to the school’s leadership for partnering with the Lake County Department of Health to vaccinate our educators in Lake County,” says the school’s Board of Education President Steve Frost. “We know how difficult this pandemic has been for our community, particularly our students and teachers. This vaccination effort brings us one step closer to safely bringing everyone back to school.”

Stevenson’s vaccination site will be located in the school’s Sports Center, an athletic space with the capacity to accommodate all necessary medical and nonmedical personnel, medical and safety equipment, technology, screening, vaccination administration as well as monitoring for potential adverse reactions. With these resources in place, the school will be able to potentially vaccinate 2,000 educators per day, depending on the availability of vaccines.

Stevenson’s leadership team will also run simulations and training with the Lake County Health Department in preparation for go-live of the vaccination site. School officials project to open its vaccination site to Lake County educators in early February and run seven days a week for approximately 6-8 weeks. Educators who work and live in Lake County are being asked to register through the health department’s AllVax portal, which will be used to notify Lake County educators when scheduling is available.

“Vaccines are good, but actual vaccinations are better. Our top priority is to stand up our site as soon as possible so we can start to vaccinate as many local educators as we can,” says Eric Twadell, superintendent of Stevenson High School. “We are grateful to our partners at the Lake County Department of Health for their guidance, even as they continue the herculean task of coordinating vaccinations for our entire county.”
