Lake Forest School Board District 67 Member Alice LeVert is running for re-election, hoping to continue serving the school's community.

"I’ve lived in Lake Forest for 27 years with my husband, Tim, and my two boys, Patrick and William," LeVert said at a recent virtual forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. "I went to undergraduate at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and have an Executive MBA from the University of Notre Dame."

LeVert said during her time on District 67’s board, she has served on the finance and operations committee, the education committee and the policy committee.

"I’ve been the board secretary for four years and I'm currently the legislative liaison," LeVert said. "I volunteered to be on the school board because I care about our children's education."

LeVert said she represents the more than 70% of the community who chooses to live in Lake Forest and pay property taxes for the community, which funds the schools, but her children are not in the school system.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the District 67 board and I look forward to doing so again," LeVert said. "I'd appreciate your consideration."

LeVert said children and their education is her number one priority.

"The good news is that will have full-time in the 2021-2022 (school year)," LeVert said. "In addition to that, getting a new superintendent and onboarding them is so important. They need to be strong and provide transparent leadership and excellent communication and reflect the needs of our community."

LeVert said getting back to a sense of normalcy and stability is also a priority.

LeVert said the models in place through District 67 schools are excellent and are reviewed by people who are experts in their field.

LeVert also said in the short-term, the board needs to use its resources and federal funding that has been approved for PPE and vaccinations.

"Long-term, we need to continue to push to keep our taxes local because our taxes are 90% of our funding, so that's really important that we keep those local," LeVert said. "And maintain our triple bond rating and provide financial oversight as board members to the district. One thing that we will require of the new superintendent is a strong fiscal strategic plan to help us do that."
