Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement.
Congratulations to Doreen Lavajo, Class of 2022, for being selected for the Illinois Music Educators Assocation's ALL-STATE Musical Festival! Doreen auditioned back in October for the District 7 Festival and scored high enough to be chosen for STATE! Doreen will be attending the Virtual ALL-STATE Festival on March 20, with hundreds of other music students from across the state. She will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses with several prominent music educators to learn more about the art of choral music. If you see Doreen, make sure to congratulate her on this amazing accomplishment!
Seven music students represented Grant in the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Music Contest this year. This year's contest was entirely virtual and students were required to submit video recordings of their performances which were evaluated by a panel of judges. Our Grant students performed very well! Division II recipients were Addision Fugelseth and Zach Langhoff. Division I recipients were Tumi Ademola, Ella Avallone, Lorelai Jensen, Doreen Lavajo, and Natalie Yoho. We're extremely proud to report that Ella Avallone, Class of 2024, received a near perfect score of 39.8/40 for her trumpet solo! Also, Tumi Ademola, Class of 2024, earned a PERFECT SCORE for her vocal solo and received special recognition with the "Best of the Day Award!" Congratulations to all the contestants!
