Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement.
The graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 will take place on Sunday, May 23, outside on the Paul G. Lewis stadium field turf at Grant Community High School. Students have already selected which ceremony they would prefer to attend and tickets have been handed out to those corresponding ceremonies. At this point in time, the ceremony you are participating in cannot be changed, and we are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday at your assigned ceremony.
Since graduation planning began, federal, state, and local mitigation guidance has changed. The most significant change as it pertains to graduation has been the State of Illinois’ transition to Bridge Phase. With the new Bridge Phase guidance, the Benedetti Center Fieldhouse is now available as a possible venue for our graduation ceremony, if needed. At this point in time, the graduation ceremony is still being planned to take place outside on the Paul G. Lewis Field. However, if inclement weather prevents outdoor ceremonies, the possibility exists to use the Fieldhouse for the May 23 graduation ceremonies.
If the ceremonies are moved into the Fieldhouse, communication will be sent on Saturday, May 22 to families of all graduates participating in the ceremony via Skyward. Regardless of the location, the number of tickets issued to graduates does not change. The previously issued four (4) tickets will be used for entry into the ceremony. Also regardless of location, the ceremony will be live streamed via a link posted on the school website, www.grantbulldogs.org, on May 23. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as mitigation guidelines and weather conditions continue to factor into graduation planning.
Additionally, we would like to use this opportunity to communicate several important reminders that apply regardless of ceremony location:
- All graduates should report to the East Gym 45 minutes before the start of your ceremony appropriately (collared shirt - tie preferred, long pants - no jeans/shorts, dress shoes - no sandals/flip-flops/gym/running shoes, nice dress preferred or dress slacks. High heels are not recommended, as the ceremony will take place on the field turf) dressed in your cap and gown.
- Students may use Entrance 1 or Entrance 9 to access the East Gym. Family members/guardians are not permitted in the East Gym.
- At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will process out from the ceremony together to the West Gym to receive diplomas. Spectators will not be allowed to come into the graduate seating area. Please make plans for families and graduates to meet at your personal vehicles or other locations for photos.
- Masks are required of all ceremony attendees. Graduates are encouraged to wear their Class of 2021 Graduation Masks provided by the school.
- Spectators’ should enter using the main Devlin Road entrance outside the Field/Fieldhouse. Spectators entry will open 45 minutes prior to each ceremony.
- Smoking and/or Vaping is prohibited at all times throughout school grounds.
- Please be considerate of other graduates and their families: make an expeditious exit from campus following the 11:00 a.m. ceremony, and do not arrive early for the 2:00 p.m. ceremony.
Finally, thank you again for your continued support and flexibility. With all the trials and tribulations this year has brought, we certainly have reason to celebrate the Class of 2021’s accomplishments at the May 23 Commencement Ceremonies.
