State Rep. Chris Bos (R-Lake Zurich) took to the House floor to call for action on unfulfilled political promises before the spring session ends.
Bos stressed eliminating corruption at the state level.
“Our communities deserve better than this,” he said. “And every single person who read your promise, cast a vote for you and put their hope in your message that this year things were going to be different, they deserve better. We don't have much time left this session and I'm aware that there's a number of shell bills sitting out there that could easily turn into something to help fix this problem. Let's work together and do what we were sent here to do and once and for all put an end to the cycle of corruption that has plagued this state for generations.”
Upset by broken campaign promises, Bos continues seeking action.
“In the last campaign cycle, I watched the TV ads, I saw the flyers in the mail, email, newsletters. I heard the speeches all promising the same thing — change, ethics reform, anti-corruption, and yet here we are just days away from the end of session and we have done nothing,” he said. “As a freshman legislator sitting there on the House floor watching as the king of Illinois corruption fell off of his throne and listening to the promise of a new day, I thought maybe this is it. Maybe. Finally, we're going to do something about this. But what has actually changed?”
The former Ela Township trustee says he is determined to fight corruption.
"Many incredible bipartisan bills to combat these issues were filed, few were never heard in committee and as far as I can tell only one ever made it out of this house,” Bos said. “What have we done to end this cycle of corruption and make sure that it can never happen again? How many more Illinois legislators need to end up in jail or under indictment before we step up and say no more. We should be better than this. Our state deserves better than this.”
He has previously told the Lake County Gazette that the Democrats’ collective silence just goes to show Mike Madigan’s hooks in the party.
Bos also earlier said he was glad to see new House Speaker Chris Welch (D-Hillside) stick by his promise to institute a 10-year term limit on the positions of speaker and minority leader. But he also expressed concern that power is still consolidated almost exclusively in the office of the speaker.
