Illinois-based manufacturers are presenting their works to the public, hoping to snatch up a popularity vote.
The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) is hosting a contest to answer the question.
“We have everything it takes to be successful,” Mark Denzler, IMA President and CEO, said to Advantage News. “We have a modern infrastructure system, we have great colleges and universities, we have an educated workforce, we have reliable and low-cost energy, and we are the only state in the nation with all seven Class 1 railroads.”
State Rep. Chris Bos took to Facebook to share his enthusiasm for the event.
The IMA is holding its Makers Madness Contest. Nominations are open now through March 20, when the public can vote on the “coolest thing made in Illinois.”
The IMA website said the winner will be announced on April 27 and featured on its website. They’ll receive an award and a celebration hosted by the organization.
Last year, the Makers Madness Contest received more than 300 products nominations. The winning product was the self-regulating traffic signal heater manufactured by Termico Technologies in Elk Grove Village.
National Association of Manufacturers reported the manufacturing industry accounted for more than 12% ($108.43 billion) of Illinois’ gross state output in 2018.
