Value of Lake Zurich-based Consumer Staples company ACCO Brands Corp. (ACCO:NYQ) fell 15.8% on Aug. 23

Value in Consumer Staples stocks fell 36.9 percent on Aug. 23 from the previous day.

The strongest performing Consumer Staples company in Illinois was Ingredion Inc. (INGR:NYQ), sitting 7,073 percent higher to sell at $91.02.

ACCO Brands Corp. (ACCO:NYQ) fared the worst among Illinois companies, suffering a 15.8 percent drop to $6.58.

Among Lake Zurich companies, ACCO Brands Corp. (ACCO:NYQ) saw the biggest fall in value of 15.8 percent on Aug. 23.

The Consumer Discretionary sector was the daily best-performing sector on the market.

Consumer Staples was the worst-performing sector.

Healthcare and technology stocks are viewed as the safest bets for long-term gains.

Besty Kuekcer with Benzinga.com said healthcare-related stocks, such as hospital conglomerates and insurance companies, have weathered numerous economic crises and still make a profit, suggesting that they are generally a stable investment.

While technology stocks can be more risky, given the boom-bust nature of new tech companies, Kuecker recommended a diverse portfolio of tech companies to strike it big when companies succeed or sell to other larger companies.

For short-term investments, Kuecker recommended “consumer discretionary” stocks, which are sensitive to economic changes but can rise greatly on the back of a strong economy.
