The Highland Park City Council is currently working on a plan to refresh and redo numerous aspects of the downtown area.
The plan includes ordering a total of 95 garbage and recycling bins, with the exact placement of the bins to be determined by Public Works; officials said during the Sept. 12 City Council meeting.
“This is part of a multiyear refresh of the central business district,” Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering said in the meeting. “So this outside external furniture, this is one component and we're continuing this over sequential years as part of our capital improvement plan.”
As presented in the meeting, the council was originally only going to purchase 55 garbage cans and 10 recycling bins to replace the current ones in use.
Public Works will place the cans and bins to ensure adequate and proper receptacles in a given area. They will also review placement of the bike racks in the area.
