Safety updates and building improvements are just a few of the exciting things happening within the Big Hollow School District 38, according to Superintendent Bob Gold.

Gold spoke about some of the improvements, including the formation of a district leadership team during a recent school board meeting on Oct. 11.

"This is just something I've been wanting to do for a while. We finally are getting it off the ground a little bit," Gold said during the meeting that was posted on YouTube.

Gold said the district leadership team will include leadership teams from each of the school buildings and administration. The plan is to meet three times a year on zoom to talk about updates to the strategic plan and any upcoming initiatives.

The district also had an annual health life safety inspection done but the Regional Office of Education. The inspector was thorough and went through each building with a very critical eye. The inspection revealed several things that the district will have to fix, but the issues are things that have been looked over in the past like rugs and pillows in the classrooms.

The district's three building principals also gave an overview of the school improvement plan to the board. Each principal had taken the district goals and made their own versions that were building-specific. The first of the two main goals was to improve instruction and student achievement with the intent of raising standardized test scores. The second goal was geared towards climate and culture, which they believe would create a safer and more enjoyable environment for students to learn.
