Sign up for Lake County Robotics Competition

The College of Lake County (CLC) engineering department welcomes registrations for the 2023 Lake County Robotics Competition (LCRC). The competition kicks off at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at CLC’s Grayslake Campus.

LCRC is a low-cost, low-barrier introduction to robotics using a competition framework. It is an alternative to the more formal competitions such as Vex or First Robotics. LCRC is the next step for students aging out of the 4H Robotics Showcase, but open to grades 7-12 students brand new to robotics.

The competition is platform neutral, allowing any platform of robotics kit to be used, including Tetrix, Vex or others. Kits are available free for teams to borrow from CLC for the spring semester.

Students may participate as part of a school team, independent team or by signing up for one of two Lake County Robotics Competition Engage classes, which will meet 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays in February, March and April live in person at the Grayslake or Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan. Sign up for the Engage LCRC class online.

The final competition for the LCRC will be during Maker Faire Lake County at the Grayslake Campus April 15. The public is invited to attend and can register at Maker Faire Lake County online. For more information or to sign up as a school or independent team, contact CLC Engineering Department Chair Rob Twardock at rtwardock@clcillinois.edu.

LCRC and Maker Faire are subsidized in part by a grant from the Baxter International Foundation.

Younger students interested in robotics may register for CLC's 4H Robotics Spin clubs, which also meet Saturdays in February, March and April.
