Once again a Legislator, Rita Mayfield, has taken steps to make law-abiding citizens criminals in newly proposed legislation regarding the transfer of ammunition. If this proposed legislation would pass as written and gets signed into law, chances are the state is going to have thousands if not hundreds of thousands of felony crimes committed on a regular basis every hunting season, at sport shooting events, and possibly even when simply plinking a few rounds with your family.

Picture this: You and your buddies are prepping for the upcoming deer season, goose season, or any other hunting or sport shooting venture in the state.  You arrive the day before the opening season or event and in all the excitement, your buddy forgot to pack his ammunition.  Fortunately, you have it covered because you brought plenty so you share (give) your ammunition to those in your group that need a few rounds.

And that fast, those doing this could face felony charges.

HB 1057 – “Provides that it is a Class 4 felony to sell or give firearm ammunition to any person if the transferrer of the firearm ammunition is not a certified licensee under the Firearm Dealer License Certification Act or if the transferrer of the firearm ammunition is not an employee of the certified licensee selling or transferring firearm ammunition in the course of his or her business as an employee of a certified licensee.”

This proposed legislation is clearly another overreach of people’s constitutional rights as it clearly infringes on people’s right to bear arms.
