A Convention of States informational meeting recently took place in Lake Forest. The meeting on Saturday, June 24 was held at the Gorton Community Center.
For those who missed the meeting, the Convention of States offers an online version.
The group notes its intentions on its website.
“Simple: to bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs,” the Convention of States said on its website. “Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. shouldn’t be allowed to make sweeping decisions that impact millions of Americans. But right now, they do. So it all boils down to one question: Who do you think should decide what’s best for you and your family? You, or the feds? We’d vote for the American people every single time.”
Convention of States Action is actively building a political network across all 50 states, seeking to recruit at least 100 citizens in every state legislative district to ensure the successful calling and ratification of effective amendments. In its pocket guide, the organization notes it has devised a two-part plan to advocate for and empower state legislators to call a Convention of States. To achieve this, they aim to garner support from 34 states to pass resolutions calling for a convention focused on imposing fiscal restraints, limiting federal government power and jurisdiction, and establishing term limits for officials and members of Congress.
The Convention of States encourages citizens to stay informed, participate in local governance, support candidates who share their values, and join grassroots organizations like the Convention of States movement to bring about a return to constitutional government.
“After you find out what is going on around you, what is your next step?” The Convention of States said on its website. “Now is the time to use your newfound awareness to take action. It is now time to get off the couch and engage with your community. Look into attending school board meetings to identify critical race theory, social and emotional learning, or teaching and counseling that promotes gender awareness or sexual theories targeting children too young to understand. Ensure they firmly entrench schools in education, not indoctrination.”
