The Gurnee Village Board of Trustees has given the green light for work on a cell tower at Woodside Park. The board approved a major modification to the Woodside Park Planned Unit Development (PUD) to enable the construction of the cell tower on the property.

According to a transcript of the Gurnee Village Board of Trustees video recording of its Oct. 23 meeting on YouTube, American Tower, the owner of a 150-foot cell tower on the property at 6737 Revere Court, submitted a building permit to add 5G antennas to the tower. However, a structural analysis revealed that the existing tower could not support the weight of the new antennas.

To address this issue, American Tower submitted a plan to the village to strengthen the cell tower's structural integrity. The plan involves erecting an exoskeleton on the outside of the tower with steel support posts and brackets every three feet up the center and sides of the tower, reaching a height of 67.5 feet.

All the cabling for the antennas will be placed inside the pole. However, these structural modifications require a major amendment to the PUD. The Gurnee Village Board of Trustees approved the modification, allowing the work on the cell tower to proceed.

The approval of the modification will pave the way for improved cellular coverage and connectivity in the area. The addition of 5G antennas to the cell tower will enhance the network capabilities, providing faster internet speeds and more reliable communication for residents and businesses in Gurnee.

The approval from the Gurnee Village Board of Trustees demonstrates their commitment to meeting the technological needs of the community. By allowing the modification to the Woodside Park PUD, they are supporting advancements in wireless communication infrastructure that will benefit the residents of Gurnee.

The construction work on the cell tower is expected to begin soon, bringing improved cellular services to the area. With the completion of this project, Gurnee residents can look forward to enhanced connectivity and a stronger network for their communication needs.
