The district removed three students to alternative settings instead of suspending or expelling them. This equates to less than one percent of the 3,651 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for 18 incidents with violence that caused physical injury, 47 incidents with violence without physical injury, five incidents with alcohol and tobacco, 40 incidents with drugs, one incident witha dangerous weapon firearm,four incidents with a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm.
The district reported that most in-school suspension was given for violence without injury, of which there was one. For one incident, student was suspended for four to 10 days.
Boy students received 97 suspensions, while 41 girls were suspended.
There were 138 high school students suspended in 2021-22 school year.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without injury, of which there were 46. There were 40 incidents of drug offense. For 60 incidents, students were suspended for four to 10 days.
Illinois lawmakers enacted laws in 2015 to restrict schools from disciplining a disproportionate number of Black and minority students out of school and into the criminal justice system, often for minor misbehavior.
