FOIA Request to Park City City Council Regarding Council Members' Details on October 15, 2024.
We at the Lake County Gazette, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Park City City Council in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request specifically asked for a list of all council members with specific details including their names, titles, year they were appointed, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiry date. We prefer this information in an electronic format for easy accessibility and processing.
As journalists dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We look forward to the cooperation of the Park City City Council in providing this requested information. This will not only help us fulfill our journalistic duties but also ensure that the public stays informed about their local government's activities.
