Roosevelt Principal Dr. Kevin Dwyer has announced his impending retirement, sharing the news with Roosevelt Elementary School families earlier this week. In a letter addressed to the District 64 Community, it was revealed that the celebration of Dr. Dwyer's tenure is underway as plans for transition begin.
Dr. Dwyer said: "As we look to the 2025-2026 school year, I've made the difficult decision that next year will be my last as the Principal at Roosevelt. After my final year in the building, I will move to a one-year role at the district office before I retire. "
He expressed gratitude for his time at Roosevelt and reflected on his career in education which began in 1994, saying: "I want to express my gratitude for the memories we've created together and the support I've received throughout my time here. "
Dr. Dwyer highlighted several memorable events during his tenure, including the annual Tiger Trot and Veterans Day recognition, adding: "I have many special lifelong memories, but I will always cherish my relationships with students, families, teachers, and staff the most. "
In his announcement, Dr. Dwyer emphasized that early notification of his retirement would allow ample time for preparation and said he would continue supporting critical areas such as school safety during his final year.
Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins also commented on Dr. Dwyer's retirement:
"We'd like to thank Dr. Dwyer for a great career in education... Because of his tireless efforts with staff and families, Roosevelt is well-positioned for the future."
The search for a new principal will commence mid-next-school-year with active recruitment efforts ensuring a smooth transition.
Dr. Dwyer concluded his letter by thanking the Roosevelt community: "Once again, thank you to the entire Roosevelt community for your support and partnership during my tenure here."
