The North Shore School District 112 Board of Education approved two key leadership appointments at Tuesday’s regular meeting. Dr. Michael Rodrigo, currently the director of personnel services, has been named assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, while Ms. Rachel Filippi, who currently serves as the student services coordinator, will assume the role of executive director of personnel services. Both changes will take effect on July 1, 2025.
“This is a truly exciting new chapter for our district,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Lubelfeld said. “Dr. Rodrigo and Ms. Filippi have consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, both as principals and within our district office. Their vision and dedication will reinforce our commitment to two core pillars: advancing academic excellence for our students and cultivating a positive, collaborative culture among our staff. I am confident that, with their guidance, our district will continue to innovate and achieve success for every student for years to come. ”
Dr. Rodrigo served as Wayne Thomas Elementary School principal for six years before transitioning to the director of personnel services role in 2024. Previously, he was the assistant principal at Walden Elementary in Deerfield Public Schools District 109 and began his career with Teach for America at Rowe Elementary in Chicago. Dr. Rodrigo holds degrees from Illinois State University and Dominican University, as well as a doctorate from National Luis University.
Ms. Filippi joined the district office as student services coordinator in 2024, following five years as principal of Sherwood Elementary School. She began her career in education as a special education teacher before serving as an assistant principal and principal in Deerfield and Wilmette. Ms. Filippi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Management from the University of Iowa, a master's in teaching in special education from National Luis University, and a master's in school leadership from Concordia University, in addition to a Director of Special Education endorsement.
“These appointments reflect our dedication to developing leaders from within and ensuring a strong, student-focused vision that will continue to drive our district’s success,” Dr. Lubelfeld said.
