Dorris Intermediate School's Junior Academic Olympiad team achieved a significant milestone by finishing in the top ten at the Regional Office of Education (ROE) Junior Academic Olympiad held at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).

Principal Kevin Stirnaman announced the accomplishment, saying, "Mr. Comrie took a group of 6th graders to compete in the ROE [Regional Office of Education] Junior Academic Olympiad at SIUE. "

The competition involved teams of four students participating in various academic challenges, with their combined scores determining their final placement. The event catered to students from sixth to eighth grade, making Dorris Intermediate School's participants the youngest competitors.

"For the first time since we’ve been sending groups to the competition, we had a team finish in the top 10," said Stirnaman. The DIS team composed of Penelope A., Audrielle C., and Allyona U., secured eighth place out of 40 teams and even clinched first place in one individual challenge.

Stirnaman expressed his pride: "We are proud of them and all of the DIS students that competed today. "

He concluded his message with enthusiasm for his school's spirit: "It’s great to be a T-Bird!!"

Congratulations were also extended under the banner "Congratulations Kahoks! #proudtobeakahok".
