Granite City schools participate in statewide band contest

Granite City, Ill., March 18, 2025 – A total of 150 band students from Coolidge Junior High School and Grigsby Intermediate School recently participated in the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) State Solo/Ensemble Contest held on March 1 at Coolidge.

This event has been hosted at Coolidge for the past 15 years and remains a significant occasion for young musicians in the region.

Of the 150 students who participated, 132 received an Excellent or Superior rating, reflecting their dedication and musical development. These students spent three months preparing their solos, leading to noteworthy performances at the contest.

The IGSMA State Solo/Ensemble Contest offers students an opportunity to refine their musical skills and gain performance experience. The success of Granite City’s band students highlights the strength of the district’s music program and support from parents, educators, and the community.
