As we plan for the future of Westminster Public Schools, I am thankful that we have formed the Future Together Facilities Initiative (FTFI) Committee to help us make smart and thoughtful decisions.

This committee includes staff members, civic leaders, professionals from different industries, and—most importantly—parents.

I promised to keep you updated and to let you know how you can get involved. Here is the latest news.

In February and March, the committee held its first two meetings. During these meetings, our Chief Operating Officer, Dr. James Duffy, shared important information about population changes and trends in our community. The data showed that, like many school districts across Colorado, Westminster Public Schools is expecting fewer students in the future. This is mostly because of lower birth rates and the rising cost of housing.

With that information in mind, our next step is to study each of our school buildings. We will look at the condition of the buildings, how many students they can hold, and how the neighborhoods around them are changing. It is too early to say if any schools might close or combine, but the FTFI Committee will help us gather the best information to guide our decisions and use our resources wisely.

Later this spring, and again in the fall, we will host community meetings. These events will give everyone a chance to share their ideas and make sure all voices are heard. Our Board of Education believes it is very important for the whole community to be informed and involved in this process.

We will continue to share updates and let you know about upcoming public meetings. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thank you for being our partner in this important work. Together, we are making a difference for our students, our schools, and our community.
