Maureen Bangsund named principal of Westminster High School for 2025-26 | Westminster Public Schools
Greeted with cheers from fellow staff members and a round of warm applause, Assistant Principal Maureen Bangsund was introduced Tuesday morning as the new principal for Westminster High School for the 2025-26 school year.
She replaces Kiffany Kiewiet who has been named WPS Director of Human Resources beginning at the end of this school year.
“I’m so excited!” said Bangsund. “Working with everyone in this building the past four years, I know the heart that is in this building. I’m excited to continue to work with everyone and keep moving forward. ”
Bangsund was named to the position after a series of interviews with the hiring committee and a public meeting with parents and students before spring break.
“She is the right fit to take Westminster High School to the next level,” said Jeni Gotto.
Bangsund has a strong background in Career Technical Education, coming to Westminster High School in 2021 as a CTE instructor.
In her letter to the hiring committee, Bangsund wrote that she knew when she was very young that she wanted to become a teacher, adding, “I firmly believe that educators have the most meaningful and impactful job, which drives my passion for supporting teachers and our students. ”
She calls her professional journey unconventional in that it also included a stint as a professional boxer, kickboxer, and Mixed Martial Arts competitor as well as an athletic coach.
Congratulations Maureen!
