The Village of Buffalo Grove announced on June 17 the promotion of Briget Schwab to the position of village engineer from her previous role as assistant village engineer.
"Briget’s expertise is exactly what is needed to lead our skilled engineering staff at this important time in the Village’s history," said Deputy Village Manager and Public Works Director Mike Skibbe, according to a news release. "Extensive capital replacement projects, our Infrastructure Modernization Program, regional transportation improvements, and the most development and redevelopment projects occurring at one time since the Village’s major growth in the 1980s."
According to the news release, Schwab joined the village in January as assistant village engineer. She brought more than 22 years of civil engineering experience, including a distinguished tenure with the Village of Arlington Heights.
The release states that as a registered professional engineer, Schwab has led infrastructure projects including road widening, street reconstruction, storm sewer construction, water main installations, and civic initiatives. Those included Harmony Park and the Arlington Heights Civic Event Sign.
According to the release, the village's engineering division plays a vital role in maintaining and advancing Buffalo Grove's infrastructure. Oversight areas include the Infrastructure Modernization Program, development review and coordination, grant administration, engineering contracts, permit review and right-of-way control, traffic and transportation inquiries, stormwater improvements, and drainage investigations. Schwab will oversee a team that includes two staff engineers and an inspector.
Schwab holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bradley University and a graduate certificate in Public Management from Northern Illinois University.
