Officer-involved shooting under investigation in Highland Park

On Friday, June 20, 2025, the City of Highland Park Police responded to an

officers arrived to check on his well-being, the individual charged at them

with a knife. In response to the imminent threat, officers fired their

weapons.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were immediately called, and officers began

lifesaving measures until the Highland Park Fire Department arrived at 5:04

a.m. Despite these efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.

The Highland Park Police Department has requested the Lake County Major Crimes

Task Force to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. As per

state law, Lake County will assume responsibility for the investigation and

provide further updates.

The 900 block of Half Day Rd. , between Western and Compton, is currently closed

due to police activity. Detour signage is in place. While there is no threat to

public safety, authorities advise avoiding the area if possible to allow

investigators space to work.

Update as of June 20, 2025 (10:51 a.m.): Half Day Rd. has now reopened to
