Lake County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a well-being check at a home in unincorporated Wauconda yesterday afternoon. A friend of a 90-year-old woman contacted authorities after the woman did not answer her door, which was unusual for her.
Upon arrival, deputies confirmed the woman's car was in the garage and observed no signs of distress from outside. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact her or her family, they decided to enter the home. Inside, they heard the woman calling out and found her lying in her bathtub, conscious but unable to move.
The woman explained she had drawn a bath the previous night but was unable to get out after suddenly losing mobility in her lower body. The Wauconda Fire Protection District arrived and transported her to a local hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.
"We’re proud of our team for their quick action and compassion," said the Lake County Sheriff's Office. They acknowledged that together with the friend's timely call for help, they potentially saved the woman's life.
