The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced that detectives are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on November 5 in Beach Park.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies were alerted around 5:45 a.m. on November 5 after the Waukegan Police reported that a 46-year-old resident of Beach Park had been taken to Vista East Medical Center with a gunshot wound. The victim later required air transport to a Level 1 trauma center. Detectives determined that the individual was shot while sitting in his vehicle, warming it up outside his home on the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road shortly after 5:20 a.m. A relative subsequently drove him to the hospital. Investigators believe the incident was targeted and continue to pursue active leads.

The Waukegan Police Department, responsible for public safety through law enforcement and crime prevention, is supported by 163 sworn officers and multiple divisions, including patrol and investigations. The department also offers online reporting tools and resources related to red light enforcement and firearm restraining orders, as said by the City of Waukegan.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is tasked with maintaining order and upholding laws while protecting individual rights within the community. The office emphasizes service through education, communication, partnerships, and enforcement with an aim to build public trust. It holds accreditation for adhering to recognized standards in law enforcement.

According to its website, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was established with the county's founding in 1839 and has expanded over time with additions such as the jail and courthouse in 1895. In 1986, the Robert H. Babcox Justice Center was constructed to house both the sheriff’s office and correctional facilities.
