Lake Forest Community High School District 115 has announced that Lake Forest High School will stage "Inherit the Wind," a courtroom drama that delves into themes of courage, curiosity, and intellectual freedom.

According to the event website, the play, written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, is directed by John Wanninger with technical direction by Kevin McClintock. It explores the historical 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial, where Tennessee teacher John Scopes was tried for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution. The narrative dramatizes the conflict between two attorneys: Henry Drummond, a libertarian lawyer from Chicago defending Scopes, and Matthew Harrison Brady, a fundamentalist who interprets the Bible literally. Denied expert witnesses, Drummond calls Brady to testify, revealing inconsistencies in his beliefs while highlighting the tension between science and religion.

Performances are set for November 20, 21, and 22 at the Little Theater. The house opens at 6:30 p.m., with performances beginning at 7:00 p.m., as said on the event website.
