The Vernon Hills Park District, in collaboration with the Village of Vernon Hills, has announced the installation of its first solar-powered light pole in Century Park. The new equipment will become fully operational after the completion of ground work.

According to the district, solar lighting is expected to improve safety and visibility in public areas while also lowering energy expenses and supporting environmental goals. The district plans to test these solar-powered units during the winter season as part of a pilot program, which includes two poles.

“Solar lighting not only enhances safety and visibility in our community spaces but also reduces energy costs and supports our commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives. We’ll be testing these units through the winter, with two poles installed as part of the pilot program,” the Vernon Hills Park District stated.

The project reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities to implement sustainable solutions in public infrastructure.
