The dismantling and removal of the concrete water tower located at 102 Keller Avenue in Waukegan is set to commence on October 28. The project aims for completion by February 1, 2025, contingent upon weather conditions.
According to a letter addressed to residents by Water Utilities Director Antonio Dominguez, the initial week will focus on site preparation activities. These include brush and tree removal, as well as the installation of soil and erosion protection measures.
Dominguez said that the water tower removal project will necessitate excavating part of the roadway to disconnect an old water main linked to the tower. Excavation will begin in the northbound lane of Keller Avenue. Traffic control measures will be implemented with a flagger present during lane closures. The road work is expected to be completed within one day and will be restored according to city standards.
Demolition of the tank is scheduled for the week starting October 28. During this period, trucks and heavy construction equipment will operate between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential activity on Saturday.
