The Winfield 34 Board of Education met on August 21 for its regular monthly session. During the meeting, the Board recognized teachers who earned tenure and gave special acknowledgment to recipients of the Board Award. The agenda included a review of last school year’s progress on the district’s Strategic Plan, a public hearing on the proposed budget for 2025-26, and mandatory training on abuse and neglect reporting.

Board members also reviewed the bullying policy and discussed ways to use district resources efficiently. They approved the first reading of new Board policies, focusing specifically on questions from the Illinois Association of School Boards about board member oaths. The certified staff evaluation plan was also approved.

The Winfield Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Winfield Education Foundation (WEF) announced their plans for the upcoming school year. Both groups aim to strengthen ties between home, school, and community through various activities and fundraisers that benefit students and staff. New families are automatically considered members since no dues are collected.

A fundraising event called “Cooks Night Out” will be held at Kimmer’s Ice Cream in Wheaton on August 27 from noon to 9 p.m., with 10% of sales going to support school initiatives.

The first PTO & WEF meeting is scheduled for September 3 at 7 p.m. in Central School Commons. These meetings offer parents an opportunity to learn more about school events and ask questions directly to administrators or staff.

WEF has started a school supply drive running through Labor Day weekend as part of its “essential needs” fund supporting students and families facing financial challenges. Donations can be dropped off at several locations in Winfield, including schools, local businesses, churches, and public buildings.

Local businesses are invited to purchase ads in either the student directory or spring drama playbill as part of a fundraiser for WEF. Details can be obtained by emailing wef@winfield34.org.

Parents are encouraged to stay connected via weekly newsletters like Tiger Prints, updates posted on www.winfield34.org, email communications from PTO & WEF (unless opted out), or by joining the Winfield 34 Parents Facebook Group.

“We have begun this year with the purchase of student school supplies and a school supply drive.”

“The drive is going on through Labor Day weekend, so if you see a great deal and want to help our staff and students be supplied for the year we would be grateful for any donations!”
