The Winfield 34 Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 24. During the session, Michael Sabados and Jimmy Nava were recognized as students of the month, and Board Member Manuel Figueroa received special recognition for his years of service. The meeting agenda included discussions on the Freedom of Information Act, Board Award, Odell Showalter Award, the 2025-26 Board Calendar, and TIF 2.

Among other decisions, the Board approved a resolution supporting Vision 2030 and confirmed the employment of Kathy Keefe as an administrative assistant for Special Education & State Reporting and Tina Desario as a middle school English Language Arts teacher for the next year. An item regarding SASED room leases was tabled.

The Board also participated in a Joint Board Meeting with districts 25, 33, and 94 on Monday, April 21. This gathering included networking activities and training on homeless students.

A Special Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday to address Principal Meech’s resignation/retirement notice, seat new board members, and hold closed sessions on personnel matters.

Community events were also highlighted:

Tiger Run: Scheduled for Sunday, May 18. Registration is open until May 1 to guarantee preferred t-shirt sizes. Prizes include Target Gift Cards worth $150 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

Staff Appreciation Week: Community members are encouraged to write letters of appreciation to staff by Sunday, May 4. Donations for a staff raffle are also being collected.

Family Fun Night: Planned at the Kane County Cougars game on Sunday, June 1 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets cost $15 each and include boxed seating and $15 in Ozzie Cash for concessions.

Additionally:

– The Box Tops program aims to reach a new goal of $600 by year-end.

– The Plant Sale fundraiser has been discontinued due to Prosek’s unavailability.

The final PTO/WEF Meeting of the school year is set for Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m., with all attendees welcome.
